“…In the present study, the T∆S°values are also plotted against the ∆H°values by using the thermodynamic parameters obtained in this work and the published data for water-soluble calix [4]arenes. [5,7,9,10,12,19,28,29] As can be seen from Figure 6, the plot of ∆H°against T∆S°gives an excellent straight line with a correlation coefficient of 0.95. The obtained slope (α) and the intercept (T∆S°) values for water-soluble calix [4]arenes as well as the corresponding values for some natural and synthetic receptors are summarized in Table 3.…”

“…Like others before us, we observe for unmodified Lys significant up-field shifts for b, g, d, and e methylene groups upon complexation with 1 (Figure 2 A). [24,29] These shifts arise due to a "side-on" binding mode that has previously been observed in an X-ray co-crystal structure of Lys and 1.…”

“…[19,22,24,25] The maximum reported affinity of 1 for any free amino acid under similar buffered conditions is for Arg (K assoc = 1520 m À1 , pH 8, 10 mm phosphate buffer [24] ). Whether comparing to this literature value or to the value we observe under our slightly more competitive experimental conditions (K assoc = 330 m À1 , pH 7.4, 40 mm phosphate buffer), the affinity of 1 for Lys(Me 3 ) is far higher than for any other amino acid.…”

“…[7][8][9] The diversity of the applications employing SCnAs is due to a number of favorable properties, including their water solubility, preorganized framework, fascinating binding ability, and especially biological compatibility. [10] As a class of versatile macrocyclic hosts, the SCnA family can efficiently include various guest molecules inside their three-dimensional, flexible, π-election-rich cavities.…”
