Complete mitogenome of Parum colligata (Lepidoptera: Sphingidae) and its phylogenetic position within the Sphingidae

Abstract: In this study, the complete mitochondrial DNA sequence of Parum colligata (Lepidoptera: Sphingidae: Smerinthinae) was sequenced firstly. The mitogenome is 15,288 bp in size, containing 13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 22 transfer RNA genes (tRNAs), two ribosomal RNA genes (rRNAs), and an A+T-rich region. In the mitogenome, Ile, Leu2, and Phe are the most frequently used codon families, while codons GCG, TGC, GGC, CTG, AGG, and ACG are absent. The A+T-rich region is 358 bp in length including a motif ‘ATAGA’, an… Show more

“…The A þ T-rich region of the I. admirabilis mitogenome is located between rrnS and trnM genes, and it has a Lepidoptera-specific poly-T stretch. However, it is obviously longer than the other species of Lepidoptera (Kim et al 2013;Li et al 2018Li et al , 2019, and the motif sequence is ACATA instead of ATAGA in other geometrid moths.…”

“…The moths of I. admirabilis were collected in Huangshan Mountains, China (30 04 0 44.59 00 N, 118 08 0 56.59 00 E). The methods of DNA extraction, amplification, and sequencing were same as that described in Li et al (2018Li et al ( , 2019. The specimen (accession number is 20170525004) and the template DNA (accession number is 20170525004DNA) were respectively deposited in the Specimens Room and in the Human and Animal Genetics Laboratory, School of Life Sciences, Huaibei Normal University, China.…”

“…Studies of the genetic diversity of Sphingidae have contributed to the understanding of their adaptive evolutionary mechanisms (Hundsdoerfer et al 2005;Barth et al 2018). To date, complete mitogenome sequences of Sphingidae are available from several species, Manduca sexta (EU286785) (Cameron and Whiting 2008), Sphinx morio (KC470083) (Kim et al 2013), Notonagemia analis scribae (KU934302) (Kim et al 2016), Ampelophaga rubiginosa (KT153024) (Xin et al 2017), Theretra japonica (MG655620) , Macroglossum stellatarum (MG747645) , Psilogramma increta (MF974243) , and Parum colligate (MG888667) (Li et al 2019). In this study, we sequenced the complete mitogenome of the sphingid Theretra latreillii subsp.…”

“…In the 37 genes, 4 PCGs ( nad5 , nad4 , nad4L , and nad1 ), 8 tRNAs ( trnQ , trnC , trnY , trnF , trnH , trnP , trnL1 , and trnV ), and 2 rRNAs are located on the minority-strand (N-strand) with the remaining 23 genes on the majority-strand (J-strand), which is identical to the other lepidopterans (Li et al. 2019 ; Ding et al. 2020 ).…”
