Comparing some nucleon-nucleon potentials

Abstract: The aim is to compare a few Nucleon-Nucleon (NN) potentials especially Reid68, Reid68-Day, Reid93, UrbanaV14, ArgonneV18, Nijmegen 93, Nijmegen I and Nijmegen II. Although these potentials have some likenesses and are almost phenomenological, they include in general different structures and their own characteristics. The potentials are constructed in a manner that fit the NN scattering data or phase shifts and are compared in this way. A high-quality scale of a potential is that it fits the data with χ 2 /N da… Show more

“…A main conclusion that one can deduce from the comparison done here is that a definite and fixed form for the NN interaction is still a critical challenge . In fact, Naghdi [18,19] has and studies different models and forms for the strong nuclear force, which almost all give similar results while have different structures, then the nuclear force will obviously become meaningless. A certain statement is that although some quantitative correspondences are present among the potentials, there are some other quantitative differences.…”

“…In general, NN interactions have been studied based on several main groups: quantum chromo dynamics (QCD) [2][3][4], lattice QCD [5][6][7], effective field theory (EFT) [8], Chiral EFT [9][10][11], chiral perturbation theory [12][13][14], boson exchange (BE) models [15][16][17], mean field theory [18][19][20] and phenomenological NN potentials [21][22][23]. In most of the models, potentials have quite complicated structures and are described by many parameters.…”

“…From the microscopic QCD point of view these notions are effective and useful simplification tools. One can see [12] that there are models with different non-nucleon degrees of freedom or at least with different their contribution into the N N -interaction. It seems that simplicity of the model may be more important than their shaky microscopic justification.…”
