Comparative Evaluation on Power-Speed Density of Portable Permanent Magnet Generators for Agricultural Application

Abstract: Abstract-The comparative evaluation based on the power speed density of several types of portable Permanent Magnet Generator (PMG) considered for agricultural applications is presented. These generators are purposely designed to be used in agriculture sectors and thereby it should be of lightweight, small in size and ease to use. Six different generator topologies are developed for investigation of such purposes. A number of design parameters are considered to analyze the performance characteristics for each t… Show more

“…The design of the PMSM6 can start by the expression of the airgap diameter or by the expression of the magnet volume needed to produce the desired power [8,[12][13][14][15][16][17][18]. High performance optimization algorithms (genetic or evolutionary type) can be included into the design process [19][20][21][22], in order to improve the power density of the studied machine.…”

“…For the analysis of the torque distribution, the slope of the line known as the torque-speed constant, kslope, is chosen as the evaluating parameter, which is similar to the power-speed constant [30]. The torque-speed constant is calculated by finding the slope of the average torque distribution between two parts when operating at different speeds.…”

“…M. Norhisam et. al presents comparative evaluations on the power density of several types of double stator slot and slot-less topology of PMG that are purposely designed for agriculture sectors [10]. The power density evaluation is very important in order to design a portable PMG that is smaller, lightweight as well as high output power.…”
