Compact triple-band monopole antenna for WLAN/WiMAX applications

Abstract: A novel compact monopole antenna for WLAN and WiMAX applications is presented. By properly etching two openended inverted L-shaped slots on the radiation patch, three separated resonances with effective bandwidth enhancement can be obtained. The overall dimension of the proposed antenna is only 29 (L) × 10 (W) × 1.6 (H) mm 3 . Experimental results show that the antenna provides three impedance bandwidth of 80 MHz (2.4-2.48 GHz), 420 MHz (3.28-3.7 GHz) and 600 MHz (5.23-5.83 GHz). Good radiation patterns and ap… Show more

“…The antenna used in the single device is required to operate at different frequency bands or broadband in WLAN and WiMAX systems. Many antenna types with different structures have been reported to achieve dual‐band, triple‐band, and multiband operation, examples of which are the monopole antennas , the microstrip patch antennas , the planar inverted‐F antennas , the coplanar waveguide‐fed antennas and the printed slot antennas . These antenna designs have their own advantages and disadvantages.…”

“…The antenna structure is rather complicated in the DGS part. In , a compact triple‐band monopole antenna was proposed for WLAN/WiMAX systems. The size was small, but the higher bandwidth could not cover the range 5.150–5.325 GHz.…”

“…Microstrip antenna is one of the attractive candidates because of low-profile, low-weight, low-cost, easy integrability into arrays or with microwave integrated circuits, or polarization diversity [9]. Monopole antennas are widely used in communacation and radar systems for its simple structure [10,11].…”
