Common Operative Procedural Errors and Clinical Factors Associated with Root Canal Treatment

Abstract: Operative procedural errors must be well analyzed in order to avoid influence negatively the root canal treatment (RCT) prognosis. The successful RCT prevents tooth loss and avoids pain and apical periodontitis. This review aimed to categorize common operative procedure errors and clinical factors associated with RCT. Based on this, will be approached common errors of procedures within the clinical operative sequence: endodontic treatment planning, pulp and periapical disease diagnosis, anaesthesia, access cav… Show more

“…Some goals are traditionally associated with access cavity preparation, such as direct access to the root canal, preservation of the pulp chamber floor, and total removal of the pulp chamber roof, among others [14]. Total removal or partial preservation of the roof has recently fueled controversy in the scientific community [9,15,16].…”

“…The survival of an endodontically treated tooth, especially one with a history of root perforation, depends on understanding the biological and mechanical outcomes as multifactorial events over the individual's life span. 10,12,25 Tooth type, strategic position of the tooth (or surface of the tooth) and the level of the perforation influence the complexity of treatment. In lateral perforations, the relation of the crestal bone to the perforation may favor a good prognosis and sealing.…”
