“…IN AN EARLIER study at a training school for Negro delinquent boys, we had contrasted the impact of per phenazine, placebo and no treatment on disturbed behavior. 25 The untreated, con trol subjects displayed a steady increase in symptoms during the study period, whereas those who had received either placebo or perphenazine showed a sta tistically significant decline in symptoms. The only evidence for drug action was -------to be found in a difference between the perphenazine and placebo groups after treatment was discontinued; the placebo group maintained its improvement whereas the perphenazine group showed a posttreatment return of symptoms, a change that suggested a rebound from a previous undetected effect.…”
