“…However, in only a few patients with RCC, tumors exhibit complete or total response to chemotherapy or immunotherapy. 4,14,15 Therefore, most patients with RCC metastases are treated with conventional radiotherapy, even though RCC is relatively radioresistant. 9,26 Recent investigations into the role of stereotactic radiosurgery for RCC metastases have reported efficacy in reducing pain and providing local tumor control, but the impact of radiosurgery on patient survival is unclear.…”

“…To enhance the cytotoxic effect of CH11 for RCC, we examined the effects of INF-a, INF-g, and IL-2, which are used clinically as immunotherapeutic agents for RCC. 3,4 The Fasmediated apoptosis of the clusterin-transfected ACHN cells was augmented by pretreatment with INF-g but not with INF-a or IL-2, whereas these cytokines had no augmenting effect on Fasmediated apoptosis of the parental and the vector-only-transfected ACHN cells. Previous studies have shown that Fas expression is stimulated by treatment with INF-g, resulting in increased sensitivity to anti-Fas monoclonal antibody in several types of cells, including fibroblasts, macrophages, colon cancer, and RCC.…”

“…2 Although immunotherapy using interferon (IFN)-a, IFNg, or interleukin (IL)-2 has recently been given to patients with advanced RCC, fewer than 20% of patients responded to these treatments. 3,4 Accordingly, there is a pressing need for a novel therapeutic strategy for advanced RCC.…”

“…Doses used in studies range from 5 to 18 MIU/m 2 /day subcutaneously or intramuscularly 3 times weekly. 10 Response rates shown with IFN-α are 8-15%, with complete responses of only 2%. 11 Therapy with high-dose IL-2 is approved by the FDA for treatment of metastatic RCC.…”
