Colour management of a low‐cost four‐colour ink‐jet printing system on textiles

Abstract: A low‐cost four‐colour (RBYK) dye‐based ink‐jet printing system for textiles was introduced in this study, in which red and blue inks were employed instead of the magenta and cyan inks used in half‐tone printing. The basis of a colour‐management system for this device was developed by determining the mapping between XYZ tristimulus values of output colours and the digital RBYK values using polynomial transforms. A second‐order equation was found to give the best performance with an average characterisation err… Show more

“…Secondly, for applications using subtractive combination, for instance in overlapping printing, the primary colours involved are primarily cyan (C), magenta (M), and yellow (Y) . Thirdly, the historical set of primary colours commonly used in art and design, for example in oil painting, are mainly red (R), yellow (Y), and blue (B) . Fourthly, the primary colours comprised of red (R), yellow (Y), green (G), and blue (B) are widely considered as the four psychological primary colours, and they are usually utilised in the area of matching colours, for instance in the Natural Colour System (NCS).…”

“…[2] This paper mainly focuses on the former process. Many mathematical models have been employed during color characterization, such as the spectral Neugebauer equations, [3,4] Kubelka-Munk model, [5] polynomial functions based on least-squares, [6,7] artificial neural networks (ANNs), [8,9] 3D interpolation techniques, [10][11][12][13] and so on. Spectral Neugebauer equations are established based on subtractive coloring principle and widely used for color characterization.…”
