Abstract: Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the second most deadly cancer. Global incidence and mortality are likely to be increased in the coming decades. Although the deaths associated with CRC are very high in high-income countries, the incidence and fatalities related to CRC are growing in developing countries too. CRC detected early is entirely curable by surgery and subsequent medications. However, the recurrence rate is high, and cancer drug resistance increases the treatment failure rate. Access to early diagnosis and … Show more

“…CRC development begins from normal cells changed to hyperplastic polyp and then converted to sessile serrated adenomas ending up with cancer ( Figure 2 ) ( 23 ). As a result, CRC is classified into five stages: stage 0 (benign polyp), stage I (tumor invades the muscularis propria), stage II (tumor invades tissue in the serosa), stage III (involved of visceral peritoneum), and stage IV (metastasis) ( Figure 2 ) ( 24 ).…”

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third most commonly diagnosed and second most deadly cancer globally ( WHO, 2021 ) that accounting for approximately 9.39% of death of all recorded cancers in 2020 ( Ferlay et al, 2020 ; Hossain et al, 2022 ). CRC incidence is expected to double by 2035 worldwide due to the fast acceleration of diagnosed cases in the elderly.…”

“…Usually, four stages of CRC are considered, depending on the five-year survival rate (from 90% to less than 1%). CRC is asymptomatic in the early stages and involves the rapid formation of metastases in the late stages [ 2 , 3 , 4 ]. Early diagnosis can save up to 90% of CRC patients [ 4 , 5 , 6 ].…”
