The issue of cognitive and communicative strategies plays a vital role in the formation of modern scientific and academic discourse. It is one of the sources of its further development in the context of modern digitalisation. The research focuses on the quality of using such strategies for argumentation, as well as the consistent and logical presentation of scientific concepts. The article analyses the methodological aspects of the cognitive-communicative strategy and the peculiarities of its use in the linguistics of English. The authors studied the principles and methods of building such strategies and determined the impact of digital technologies on this process. Special attention is paid to the development of the modern scientific environment, key institutions of influence, the activities of some independent researchers, and their interaction with research centres. Through critical analysis, the authors have uncovered the key approaches to constructing, using, and the principles of functioning cognitive and communicative strategies in the linguistics of English. Furthermore, they have identified potential principles for their transformation by the development of digital technologies in scientific research. The article examines the characteristics of the development of academic discourse in English and the emergence of new lexical constructions and neologisms brought about by the digital revolution. The main goal of the research is to outline the prospects for further development of academic discourse in linguistics of English and the possibilities for its enhancement through the use of these technologies. It is proven that the development of general and communicative competencies regarding all types of communicative activity in various areas of language communication is the primary task of linguistics in English.

We present the process of translation, adaptation, and validation in the Spanish context of the 10-item version of the Weekly Calendar Planning Activity (WCPA-10), a performance-based measure of cognitive instrumental activities of daily living (C-IADL). The study consisted of two phases: I) translation/cultural adaptation of the WCPA, conducted by professional bilingual translators, a panel of experts, and a pilot study, and II) validation in a sample of 42 acquired brain injury patients (ABI) and 42 healthy participants (HC). WCPA primary outcomes showed expected convergent/discriminant validity patterns with socio-demographical and clinical variables and cognitive processes identifying those WCPA outcomes that best predicted executive and memory deficits measured with a battery of traditional neuropsychological tests. In addition, performance on the WCPA was a significant predictor of everyday functioning over variables such as socio-demographics or global cognition when measured with traditional tests. External validity was established by the WCPA's ability to identify everyday cognitive deficits in ABI patients compared to HC, even in those with subtle cognitive impairment based on neuropsychological tests. The Spanish WCPA-10 seems an appropriate and sensitive assessment tool to identify cognitive-functional impairment in ABI-patients, even those with subtle cognitive impairment. The results also highlight the relevance of this kind of test, as they indicate a better prediction of patients' real-world functioning than traditional neuropsychological tests.

Background: the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) is one of the latest brain structures to mature during the ontogeny, and its structural and functional abnormalities play an important role in the pathogenesis of schizophrenia. As schizophrenia spectrum disorders usually start before the complete brain maturation and their earlier onset is coupled with worse prognosis, we suggested that earlier illness onset is related to more pronounced aberrations of the DLPFC. The aim of study was to analyze the associations of the onset age of schizophrenia spectrum disorders with structural and functional characteristics of the DLPFC that differentiated patients with schizophrenia spectrum disorders from healthy controls. Patients and methods: male patients with a diagnosis of schizophrenia spectrum disorders (n = 82) and healthy controls (n = 86) underwent structural MRI and functional resting-state fMRI. Cortical thickness and whole-brain functional connectivity of the DLPFC as well as local coherence and amplitude of low-frequency fluctuations of haemodynamic signal in the DLPFC were analyzed. Results: patients demonstrated a decreased gray matter thickness in the DLPFC bilaterally along with aberrant (predominantly decreased) functional connectivity of the DLPFC with other brain structures in each hemisphere. These measures were not associated with the age of illness onset. Conclusions: structural and functional abnormalities revealed in this study coincide with conventional view on the DLPFC as one of the key regions in schizophrenia spectrum disorders pathogenesis, however, these aberrations were not related to the age of psychosis onset. Possible interpretations of our results and limitations of the study are discussed in the article.
