“…Of much greater diagnostic and therapeutic significance is the erythrocyte sedimentation rate. In our case, as in other reports (Cogan, 1949;Cody and Williams, 1960;Beckman and Trotsky, 1970;Hughes et al, 1983) this has been found to indicate disease activity and response to treatment.…”

Exaggerated anticipatory anxiety is common in social anxiety disorder (SAD). Neuroimaging studies have revealed altered neural activity in response to social stimuli in SAD, but fewer studies have examined neural activity during anticipation of feared social stimuli in SAD. The current study examined the time course and magnitude of activity in threat processing brain regions during speech anticipation in socially anxious individuals and healthy controls (HC). Method Participants (SAD n = 58; HC n = 16) underwent functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) during which they completed a 90s control anticipation task and 90s speech anticipation task.

“…8,12 We found no evidence of recent Epstein-Barr infection in two of our patients, and others also have failed to demonstrate recent infection with this virus. 4,8,26,34 Because of the associated vasculitis, we performed hepatitis B surface anti gen tests in two patients; the results were nega tive, consistent with the findings of others. 25,26 We were unable to confirm evidence of recent cytomegalovirus in two patients or of herpes simplex, mumps, St. Louis encephalitis, Western equine encephalitis, adenovirus, varicella-zoster, rubeola, or California encephalitis virus in one patient each.…”

“…We were unable to find serologic evidence of recent C. trachomatis infection in one of them or of exposure to psittacosis in a third patient who had active Cogan's syndrome. Other investigators have also failed to find evidence of chlamydial infections, 3,4,8,17 including ornithosis and lymphogranuloma venereum.…”
