Closed polymer containers based on phenylboronic esters of resorcinarenes

Abstract: Novel polymer nanospheres (p(SRA-B)) were prepared by cross-linking a sulfonated resorcinarene (SRA) with phenylboronic acid. p(SRA-B) shows good stability in water and can be used as a nanocontainer for the pH- and glucose-controlled substrate release. Fluorescent dyes (fluorescein, pyrene and 1,3,6,8-pyrenetetrasulfonic acid tetrasodium salt) were successfully loaded into p(SRA-B). The release of dye is achieved by lowering the pH value to 3 or by adding glucose.

“…1 H NMR spectrum of p(6SRA‐5B) exhibits the broad peaks of aromatic and aliphatic protons corresponded to SRA, BA and a negligible amount of triolein (Figure S3 in the Supporting Information). As it was noted in the previous work, p(SRA‐B) is stable at neutral pH, and the boronate bond dissociates with p K diss 4.9.…”

“…Sergeeva et al. developed polymer nanospheres as nanocontainers formed using PBA and sulfonated resorcinarene . Cross‐linked resorcinarene molecules formed nanospheres with a PBA core that showed good stability in water and a nanocontainer in which fluorescent dyes could be encapsulated and released upon pH change or the addition of competitive glucose.…”

“…Zhou et al developed an ATP-responsive siRNA release system consisting of poly(ethylenimine) modified with PBA and hyaluronic acid modified with ATP. [59] Interactions of two polymers formed cross-linked micelles via boronate-ATP interactions with siRNA loaded inside. The entrapped siRNA could be released upon interaction with the free ATP inside the cells.…”
