Clocking effect of outlet RGVs on hydrodynamic characteristics in a centrifugal pump with an inlet inducer by CFD method

Abstract: This paper investigates the hydrodynamic characteristic of a single-stage centrifugal pump with inlet inducer and outlet Radial Guided Vanes (RGVs) influenced by the clocking effect for the first time. Different from general ones, the outlet RGVs in this paper have specificities. The hydraulic performance and dynamic characteristics of the centrifugal pump are numerically studied and validated by experiments. The results indicate that there is an optimum position of RGVs that can not only increase the pump hea… Show more

“…The commercial computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software ANSYS CFX 17.0 was utilized to analyze the continuity and momentum equations for the internal flow of the pump. The turbulence was simulated using the SST k-w model [37][38][39][40]. In terms of the boundary conditions, a total pressure of 2 kPa was specified at the inlet, a mass flow rate condition of 30.5 kg/m 3 was set at the outlet, and no-slip conditions were applied to the other wall surfaces.…”

“…In recent years, the advanced development of computer technology allows the dynamic flow conditions inside hydraulic pumps to be solved numerically using powerful CFD methods. [21][22][23] In the following sections, we will establish an accurate 3D-CFD model to investigate the pump cavitation and then analyze the temperature effects on it.…”

“…The clocking effect also has a significant impact on the frequency and amplitude of pressure fluctuations because pressure pulsation not only depends on the interaction between the rotor and the stator but also on the interaction between the diffuser and tongue. Jiang et al, 21 Zhang et al 22 studied the influence of diffuser vanes on the operational performance and flow characteristics of centrifugal pumps through experiments and numerical simulations. The results showed that when the trailing edge of the vane was close to the tongue, the efficiency reached its minimum value, and the radial force on the impeller reached its maximum value.…”
