“…Three groups have performed large (n = 776, n = 326, and n = 800) double-blind, vehicle-controlled, randomized trials using 0.1% cream for 9 months. [47][48][49] All demonstrated statistically significant clinical improvement in wrinkling pigmentation, sallowness, and texture compared with controls starting at 12 weeks. However, no significant changes were found in the dermis in terms of elastosis reduction or fibroblast density.…”

“…Isotretinoin-treated patients showed statistically significant improvement in the various symptoms of photoaging like fine wrinkles and pigmentation as compared with placebo-treated subjects (Cunningham 1990). Later, in 2 separate studies, the potential of isotretinoin in treating patients suffering from mild to moderate photodamage was evaluated by Sendagorta and colleagues (1992) (n = 776) and Armstrong and colleagues (1992) (n = 326) in double-blind, vehicle-controlled clinical trials. In both studies, isotretinoin cream 0.05% was applied for 12 weeks, followed by application of higher strength isotretinoin (0.1% cream) during the next 24 weeks.…”

“…In both studies, isotretinoin cream 0.05% was applied for 12 weeks, followed by application of higher strength isotretinoin (0.1% cream) during the next 24 weeks. Interestingly, both studies resulted in a statistically significant improvement in overall appearance, fine wrinkling, discrete pigmentation, sallowness, and texture of photoaged skin without causing any significant irritation (Armstrong et al 1992; Sendagorta et al 1992). …”

“…40,41 Three subsequent studies found that a once-daily application of 0.1% isotretinoin (an isomer of retinoic acid) cream for 36 weeks was effective in reducing fine wrinkles; in two of these studies a 0.05% cream had similar efficacy. [42][43][44] Three large-scale clinical trials investigating the efficacy of topical 0.1% tazarotene cream have uniformly supported its effectiveness in minimizing fine wrinkles and mottled hyperpigmentation. [45][46][47] One of these trials compared 4 different concentrations (0.1%, 0.05%, 0.025%, 0.01%) of tazarotene cream with 0.05% tretinoin cream.…”
