Clinical conditions and history of illness among terminal chronic kidney disease patients

The intensity of cigarette exposure is associated with the severity of the inflammatory reaction. Treg cell plays a role in suppressing the inflammatory response. There has been no clear evidence on the relationship between smoker behavior with the nicotine level and Treg number. We will investigate the relationship between smoking behavior with the nicotine level and Treg number. We conducted a cross-sectional study of 106 healthy volunteers in Yogyakarta. We interviewed the subjects and took their blood samples for hemogram, Treg number, nicotine level, and blood chemistry examination. The inclusion criteria were fit, male or female, aged 18 years or older, and willing to volunteer proven by completing and signing the informed consent. We collected the data on smoking habits through interviews guided by a questionnaire. We examined hemogram and blood chemistry using a spectrophotometer, while the levels of nicotine were measured using The enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). We described the characteristics of the subjects by univariate analysis. The bivariate analysis was to determine the relationship between cigarette smoking length with nicotine level and Treg number. The results show a connection between the range of tobacco and cigarette number with nicotine levels in the blood with a value of <em>r</em>=0.63 in the Pearson correlation test p<0.00. It can be concluded that there is a relationship between behavior smoking with nicotine levels and Treg counts.

Chronic kidney failure is a chronic disease that requires treatment and hemodialysis therapy. Hemodialysis therapy has physical and psychological impacts on patients, such as stress. Patients who experience stress require management techniques such as lavender aromatherapy and deep breathing relaxation. The purpose of the study was to compare the effects of lavender aromatherapy and deep breathing relaxation on patients receiving hemodialysis who were experiencing the stress of chronic kidney failure. The study's quasi-experimental design includes two groups for the pretest and posttest. The 32 patients with chronic renal failure receiving hemodialysis made up the research sample; 16 of them participated in the lavender aromatherapy intervention and 16 were part of the deep breathing relaxation group. The research instrument used is the perceived stress scale (PSS) questionnaire. With a p-value of 0.000, data analysis employing an independent t-test reveals a difference between the deep breathing relaxation and lavender aromatherapy interventions on the stress of chronic renal failure patients receiving hemodialysis. Lavender aromatherapy and breathing relaxation can reduce stress in chronic kidney failure patients undergoing hemodialysis. Lavender aromatherapy reduces stress in chronic kidney failure patients more effectively than deep breathing relaxation. Lavender aromatherapy can be an alternative therapy to reduce stress while undergoing hemodialysis.

Pruritus and long-term hemodialysis among patients with chronic renal failure

Patients with hypertension and diabetes are at risk of developing chronic kidney failure. A common occurrence in patients with chronic kidney disease is pruritus. Pruritus can affect all parts of the body, which can have an emotional impact on the patient, affect the quality of sleep and mood of the patient, and cause discomfort. The study's goal was to determine whether there was a long-term link between hemodialysis and the onset of pruritus among patients with chronic renal failure who were receiving hemodialysis. Quantitative research with the cross-sectional method A total of 45 patients are in the RSI Sultan Agung Semarang Hemodialisa Unit, Central Java, Indonesia. The instrument in this study was the 5D pruritus scale. Data analysis was done using SPSS version 24. The Spearman rank test was conducted to test the relationship between two variables of the study, namely the duration of hemodialysis and the occurrence of pruritus. The study was conducted in April–June 2022, along with the ethical test. The results of the study obtained a p value of 0.004≤0.05, which means there is a relationship between long-term hemodialysis and the occurrence of pruritus in patients with chronic kidney failure. In conducting treatment, it is important to pay attention to basic needs and comfort, as well as implement pruritus management.
