Circulating long non‐coding RNA GAS5 and SOX2OT as potential biomarkers for diagnosis and prognosis of non‐small cell lung cancer

Abstract: Early diagnosis of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is essential for patient treatment and prognosis. Long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) have potential roles in tumor initiation and differentiation. The objective of this study was to investigate whether the circulating lncRNA, growth arrest-specific transcript 5 (GAS5) and SOX2 overlapping transcript (SOX2OT), could be used as noninvasive biomarkers for NSCLC diagnosis. Moreover, we aimed at evaluating the association between lncRNA and the clinicopathological feat… Show more

“…Kresoja-Rakic et al determined GAS5 as prognostic marker using plasma samples from mesothelioma patients before and after chemotherapy [30]. Otherwise, circulating GAS5 is repeatedly suggested as a marker for the detection of lung cancer, showing a consistent down-regulation in cancer patients [31][32][33].…”

“…In correspondence to drug response, low expression of miR-145 was found to be associated with chemotherapy resistance [289] while downregulation of miR-21 demonstrated better gefitinib response [288]. For long non-coding RNAs, HOTAIR [293], LINC00152 [294], growth arrest-specific transcript 5 (GAS5) [295,296], lncRNA-NEF [216], and SOX2 overlapping transcript (SOX2OT) [296] have been identified as potential biomarkers for lung cancers. With further research on circulating non-coding RNAs in relation to particular cancers, there could possibly be greater early detection using this noninvasive technique.…”

“…An increasing number of novel lncRNAs including GAS5, SOX2OT, HOTTIP, OIP5-AS, LINC00473, etc. are potential biomarkers for NSCLC diagnosis and prognosis and should be validated in large NSCLC samples (Chen et al, 2016c;Esfandi et al, 2019;Kamel et al, 2019;Navarro et al, 2019). LncRNA CASC8 rs10505477 could possibly be used to apperceive toxicity and response of chemotherapy in NSCLC patients (Hu et al, 2016).…”
