Ciliated plantar cyst
Abstract: A 33-year-old woman had a solitary cyst of the right sole. The cyst was lined by ciliated columnar epithelium that varied in thickness from a single layer to pseudostratified layers. We suggest that the cyst may represent a developmental anomaly that resulted in the abnormal localization of cells with the potential for ciliogenesis.

“…Of these hypotheses, Müllerian heterotopia has been most commonly proposed to be the basis of similar histopathological features of the epithelium. 12,13 The origination of this ciliated cyst of the vulva is not very clear although there are various theories proposed :…”

“…Misplacement of Müllerian duct tissue has been considered as the highly probable cause for the origin of this CCV. [9][10][11][12][13] The fallopian tube is lined by a single layer of ciliated cells, non-ciliated columnar secretory cells and intercalated cells. Pseudostratified columnar or cuboidal cells which exhibited cilia on the luminar aspect, showing similar features to the fallopian tube histologically, and was hypothesized to be oestrogendependent as was seen in our case and also patient gave history of a small swelling since childhood which increased slowly after menarche which shows oestrogen dependent lesion.…”

“…The mean age (±SD) of patients was 23.8 ± 7.57. Most of the lesions (28/31) were found on the lower limb (eight on the thigh, six on the buttock, five on the foot, five on the calf, two on the sole, one on the heel and one on the knee) 1 , 4 –17 . Exceptional lesions were found on the back, 3 shoulder 18 and scalp 19 .…”
