“…CNTF treatment restored toe spread in diabetic rats to normal, consistent with this neurotrophic factor's influence on the development and function of synapses (36) and the previously reported ability to enhance functional recovery after nerve transection (37). The lack of an effect of 3 per group).…”

Exaggerated anticipatory anxiety is common in social anxiety disorder (SAD). Neuroimaging studies have revealed altered neural activity in response to social stimuli in SAD, but fewer studies have examined neural activity during anticipation of feared social stimuli in SAD. The current study examined the time course and magnitude of activity in threat processing brain regions during speech anticipation in socially anxious individuals and healthy controls (HC). Method Participants (SAD n = 58; HC n = 16) underwent functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) during which they completed a 90s control anticipation task and 90s speech anticipation task.

“…To date the trophic actions of gp130 cytokines has been mainly confined to regeneration within the injured motor system (Arakawa et al, 1990;Sahenk et al, 1994;Ulenkate et al, 1994;Hirota et al, 1996;Newman et al, 1996;Tham et al, 1997;Zhong et al, 1999). Our current study now provides evidence that LIF is a cornerstone for regeneration of small-diameter sensory axons.…”

“…The results of this study and previous studies in our laboratory 13,20 suggest that the activity of both BDNF and CNTF that was actually delivered to the neurorrhaphy were maintained in vivo, however neurotrophic factor activity was not assayed in this experiment.…”

“…Although not statistically significant, these data suggest a trend that correlates with functional recovery. A previous investigation in our laboratory using CNTF alone demonstrated significant functional improvement and conservation of muscle mass over control using twice the concentration of CNTF (300 μg/mL) with an endpoint of 60 days 13 . These different conditions may be critical as the myotrophic activity of CNTF acts in a dose dependent fashion that decreases over time 18 .…”
