Chronic Open-Angle Glaucoma Associated with Traumatic Dislocation of the Lens

Calcific Phacolysis

“…These granules stained positively for calcium with von Kossa's stain and were iden¬ tical to those reported in the enucle¬ ated eyes with calcific phacolysis.1 A few melanin pigment clumps and gran¬ ules were admixed with the calcific granules. COMMENT Calcific phacolysis was suggested clini¬ cally in the current case by (1) surgi¬ cal trauma to the crystalline lens; (2) subsequent lens shrinkage and direct discharge ofwhite particles into the vit¬ reous; (3) pseudohypopyon; and (4) calcific retinopathy, with the last three features present in a treated, white, noninflamed eye. Histologie confirma¬ tion was made by one of us (N.C.C.)…”

The incidence of cases of chronic simple glaucoma in the separate age groups was as follows: …”

Rodman (1963) has reported a 77.2% incidence of glaucoma with anterior dislocation of the lens and 87.5% with subluxated or posteriorly dislocated lenses, on a histopathological review of 120 cases. Tonjum (1968) clinically noted an increase in post contusion angle deformities when associated with lens opacities, iridodialysis, goniosynechia or pupillary changes.…”
