Chiral Macroporous MOF Surfaces for Electroassisted Enantioselective Adsorption and Separation

Abstract: The development of surfaces with chiral features is a fascinating challenge for modern material science, especially when they are used for chiral separation technologies. In this contribution, the design of hierarchically structured chiral macroporous ZIF-8 electrodes is presented. They are elaborated by an electrochemical depositiondissolution technique, based on the electrodeposition of metal through a colloidal crystal template, followed by controlled electrooxidation. This generates locally metal cations, … Show more

“…In recent years, a considerable number of researchers have been committed to improving ADS for developing new MOF crystals by the replacement of substrate, [44][45] the employment of additional templates [46][47] and adding structure-directing agents. [48] Moreover, ADS has greatly helped to innovate the synthesis of MOFs (as well as their complexes) and broaden their practical applications.…”

“…The potential difference between chiral analyte and stationary phase gave a baseline separation of the enantiomers. [74] Homochiral MOF grown on hydroxyl and carboxyl substrates gave homochiral porous MOF thin films (SUR-MOF) [Cu 2 (D-cam) 2 L 13 ] n (L 13 = dabco or bpy). When hydroxy group with MUD (11-mercaptoundecanol) and carboxyl group with MHDA (16-mercaptohexadecanoic acid) were selected, the chiral-SURMOF showed its preferential growth along [001] and [110] orientation.…”

“…Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are a class of ordered porous materials formed by the precise coordination of organic ligands and metal ions/clusters. [25][26][27] They have the advantages of convenient preparation, an adjustable structure, versatility and good biological compatibility, and can be used in the field of sensing, 28,29 photocatalysis, 30 gas adsorption/ separation [31][32][33] and biomedicine. 34,35 Among them, special efforts have been devoted to the use of MOFs for controlled drug delivery systems.…”
