Chilling Injury, Physicochemical Properties, and Antioxidant Enzyme Activities of Red Pitahaya (Hylocereus polyrhizus) Fruits under Cold Storage Stress

Abstract: Low-temperature storage is extensively used to optimize the postharvest life of various fresh fruits. However, red pitahaya (Hylocereus polyrhizus) fruits are sensitive to chilling injury (CI), which leads to the limitation of low-temperature storage. In this study, red pitahaya fruits were stored at 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10°C, respectively, for 27 days to determine the appropriate storage temperature. During the storage of red pitahaya fruits, storage at 8°C was more effective in suppressing decay and maintaining q… Show more

“…The respiration rate was measured according to Sheng's method and the results were expressed as CO 2 mg kg −1 h −1 [68]. Before the relative conductivity measurement, a total of 30 discs, with a diameter of 5 mm and a thickness of 2 mm, were removed from each treatment of mangoes.…”

“…Crocin has been shown in recent studies to inhibit tumor growth, provide neuroprotection, and have anti-oxidant properties. [9][10][11] As a result, we hypothesized that crocin could prevent CDDP-induced nephrotoxicity by inhibiting oxidative stress and apoptosis. Using the Kunming mouse as the experimental model, this study sought to investigate the activity of crocin in attenuating CDDP-induced nephrotoxicity.…”

“…Hylocereus plants are generally hardy, easy to cultivate and quickly produce the fruits [ 1 , 2 , 3 ], and are resistant to damage during the transport. The fruits may be stored at 8 and 10 °C in good condition and this temperature exerts a protective effect on their quality during storage [ 4 ]. All these features provide everyday access to fresh dragon fruits, which meets the recommendations of a diet rich in fruits and vegetables.…”
