“…The renal involvement has been ascribed to several different mechanisms. Symptomatology and renal failure are most commonly caused by hypercalcemia with or without nephrocalcinosis and nephroiithiasis (35). Calcium nephropathy is probably due to increased calcium absorption secondary to increased sensitivity to vitamin D. In adults, 10% to 20% have hypercalcemia and 60% have hypercalciuria (1).…”

“…In the literature, 19 isolated reports described a nephropathy in childhood sarcoidosis (Table 3) [2,3,4,6,8,12,15,16,18,20,23,25,27,30,32,34,35]. The frequencies of renal failure (85±90%), proteinuria (85± 100%), abnormal urinary sediment (66±80%), and impaired urinary concentrating capacity (45±50%) were similar in granulomatous and calcaemic nephropathy, and did not distinguish among aetiologies.…”

“…Table 1 lists the clinical and pathological features of reported cases of renal sarcoidosis in children. Renal manifestations included proteinuria, hypertension, and azotemia in all [3,14,15]. Histopathological studies revealed granuloma formation, interstitial fibrosis, and tubular atrophy in three cases [3,14,15].…”
