Abstract: Abstract 087ChemInform Abstract Treatment of THF (I) with TiCl4 followed by non-hydrolytic work-up gives the ring-opened products (II) and (IIIa), whereas hydrolytic work-up leads to the chloro alcohols (IIIb)-(IIId) (yields in g). The bicyclic ether (IV) is cleaved to give the chloro alcohols (V) and (VI). Similarly, various cyclic ethers such as 1,4-dioxane, 1,3-dioxolane, 1,3,5-trioxane, 2,3-and 2,5-dihydrofuran and substituted tetrahydrofurans and tetrahydropyrans are treated with TiCl4 or TiBr4 to give p…
