Abstract: Laboratory Formation of OBrO and Its Reactivity Toward Ozone at 298 K. -Bromine dioxide is formed by a discharge flow reactor from O + Br 2 , Br + O 3 , and by microwave discharge of a Br 2 /O 2 /He mixture. The key mechanism in the formation of OBrO is the self-reaction of vibrationally excited BrO as an intermediate. The OBrO thus generated can also be vibrationally excited. OBrO in the ground state is not very reactive towards O 3 , while excited OBrO is at least three orders of magnitude more reactive. -(…
