Abstract: The effects of mechanical and chemical dissolution on 100 human senile cataracts were tested in uitro. Senile cataracts obtained immediately after surgical removal were grouped in three classes according to transparency, color and hardness (resistance to perforation). Dissolution of the lenses by various chemicals during push-pull aspirations was tested by weighing and by photography of cataracts before and after treatment.
