Abstract:The MPS 3 family of layered magnetic materials (M = Fe 2+ , Ni 2+ , Mn 2+ , etc) shows many unusual properties. We have recently observed time-dependent magnetisation and two magnetic phase transitions in Fe 0.5 Ni 0.5 PS 3 , and here we use neutron diffraction and Mössbauer spectroscopy to explore the magnetic and structural ordering. Neutron diffraction shows that the staggered magnetisation lies closest to the Brillouin curve for J = 1, which is the spin for quenched Ni 2+ . In agreement with neutron diffra… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
