Characterization of select members of the Taxane family using Raman spectroscopy

Abstract: Experimentally derived Raman spectra of three members of the taxane family are presented and discussed. The taxoids investigated were docetaxel (Taxotere  ), baccatin III and cephalotaxine. These analytes were studied because of their potent antitumor capability or they are potential precursors for the synthesis of highly valuable pharmaceutical drugs. Drop coating deposition Raman (DCDR) spectroscopy is utilized in order to examine the vibrational wavenumbers of the powders and solutions, down to concentrati… Show more

“…The Raman spectral signature of our DTX was in agreement with previous reports [39] (Additional file 4: Figure S3 and Additional file 5: Table S2). Figure 3b shows DTX spectral bands at 620 and 1006 cm −1 , which are attributed to the aromatic vibrations of monosubstituted benzene, while vibrational bands at 1605, 1632, and 1715 cm −1 were respectively assigned to the ester, aromatic stretch (νC=C) and carbonyl groups present in the DTX drug.…”

“…The shoulder band at 1385 cm −1 and 1585 cm −1 is corresponds to the C–H and C=C of carbon (citrate ions), respectively (Fig. 8 b) 64 , whereas, PEG functionalized AuNPs exhibited the Raman spectra appeared the signals at 260.81 cm -1 ,455 cm −1 (C–NH amide), 869 cm −1 (C–N in-plane bending), 1085 cm −1 (C–C stretching of carbonyl groups), 1369 cm -1 , 1445 cm −1 and 1599 cm −1 corresponds to the Au 0 , C–O, C–H and C–O–H strongly observed on the surface, respectively (Fig. 8 c).…”

“…Indeed, new bands appeared in the spectrum of TiONts–DTX by comparison with the TiONts–PEG 3000 spectrum. These bands corresponded to the presence of docetaxel . Bands at 625 and 1005 cm −1 were assigned to aromatic vibrations of monosubstituted benzene.…”
