Characterization of chemical and mineral composition of marolo (Annona crassiflora Mart) during physiological development

Abstract: Maroleiro (Annona crassiflora Mart), belonging to the family of Annonaceae is a typical specie of the Cerrado and has occurred in most states. For fruit characteristics "sui generis", with significant nutritional value. This study aimed to characterize the marolo (Anonna crasiflora Mart) during fruit development, through the evaluation of its proximal and mineral composition. The fruits 2012/2013 season, were picked to 12Km from the city of Itumirim, southern Minas Gerais, in intervals of 20 days from anthesis… Show more

“…Moreover, the inclusion of fruit peel increases the nutritional quality of peach palm by increasing the bioavailable beta-carotene. According to Silva et al (2017) the potential market for the fruit is much larger because of the nutritional, sensory properties and visual qualities, which can be explored for creating new products and markets.…”

“…In the seed sample (100 g), minerals with high proportions were potassium (59.91 mg), manganese (26.81 mg), and iron (21.06 mg). Silva et al [6] studied the availability of minerals in a Brazilian native species and observed low contents for all the minerals analyzed. Concentration of nutrients/minerals in the fruit is closely linked to the availability of those nutrients in the soil and this may have a direct effect on the protein content as they constitute amino acids.…”

“…In addition to this, they also carry out secondary metabolism, to produce low molecular weight substances that are responsible for various functions that are not always well defined but also, not less important. [6] Determination of these compounds can be carried out by the solid-phase microextraction (HS-SPME) technique that integrates sampling, extraction, and concentration in a single step. The technique is practically solvent free and uses a small fused silica fiber, covered with a polymeric film, adapted in a device similar to a syringe.…”

“…The marolo or araticum (Annona crassiflora Mart.) is among the fruits of Brazilian Cerrado with great exploration potential, being consumed "in nature" or as juice, liquor, ice cream, jam, and diverse sweets (Almeida 1998;Silva et al 2017);…”
