Abstract: The multidrug-resistant (MDR) phenotype is multifactorial, and cell lines presenting multiple resistance mechanisms might be good models to understand the importance of the various pathways involved. The present work characterized a MDR chronic myeloid leukemia cell line, derived from K562 through a selective process using daunorubicin. This MDR cell line was shown to be resistant to vincristine, daunorubicin, and partially resistant to imatinib. It showed a slower duplication rate. Overexpression of ABCB1 and… Show more

“…[31]. In addition to being resistant to daunorubicin and Imatinib [35], MDR cells were shown to express more BCR-ABL kinase and MDR1 than K562 [48], presenting a broad pattern of resistance that includes BCR-ABL independent resistance mechanisms.…”

“…Mechanistic studies have suggested that redox signals modulate the transporters of membrane proteins 3638 . However, the underlying biochemical process remains largely unclear regarding how ADR perturbs redox homeostasis and the identity of the crucial factor that dominates the increased expression of P-gp.…”

“…As negative control, parasites were not exposed to dyes. MDR cells Lucena-1 or FEPS were employed as positive control due to overexpression of ABCB1 and ABCC1 respectively (79)(80)(81). These cells were gently offered by Dr. Vivian Rumjanek from the Institute of Medical Biochemistry Leopoldo de Meis, UFRJ, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.…”
