Characteristic of a PDP-based radiation detector in Xe-He mixture gas

Abstract: In this study, we have investigated a 2-dimensional gas detector based on plasma display technology as a candidate for the flat-panel radiation detector. Using the Geant4 and Garfield codes, that simulate the passage of particles through matter, we examined the dependence of X-ray absorption and multiplication factors on the Xe-He gas mixture. Prototype detectors, with four different gas mixtures, were designed and fabricated based on the results from the simulations. The performance of four dete… Show more

“…Based on the Monte Carlo simulation studies, the cell structure and gas mixture were optimized to enhance the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of the PXD [2]. Finally, a 5inch PXD panel consisting of 1 mm × 1 mm × 2.8 mm cells was developed, and its intrinsic sensitivity and SNR have been reported [3]. Manuscript This prototype detector panel has row and column strips, and hence, it can be used as an imaging detector.…”
