Changes in thrombin generation, fibrinolysis, platelet and endothelial cell activity, and inflammation following endovascular abdominal aortic aneurysm repair

Abstract: The prothrombotic, hypofibrinolytic diathesis associated with AAA is normalized 12 months after EVAR. This beneficial systemic effect of EVAR for AAA disease may help protect patients against future thromboembolic cardiovascular events.

“…2,3 Abdelhamid et al found a significant rise in PLT activation's markers in 29 EVAR patients after the procedure that sustained for 12 months. 2 Perioperative factors and baseline characteristics that may influence this response have not been studied in either report. Therefore the aim of the present prospective study was to investigate the effect of EVAR on PLT function during the immediate postoperative period following elective EVAR and reveal any possible associated factors.…”

“…This exacerbates the aortic injury and leads to an endothelial dysfunction that contributes to the loss of its antithrombotic properties. Impaired regulation of coagulation and fibrinolysis and endothelial dysfunction are the reasons for a dominating prothrombotic tendency leading to hypercoagulability [11,12].…”
