Abstract: The leaf apoplast is a dynamic compartment in contact with plant pathogenic bacteria after infection. Among the very first interaction events is the receptor-mediated perception of bacterial surface molecules such as flagellin or other conserved microbe-associated molecular patterns (MAMPs).
