The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate the employment costs and advantages of employing a foreign labour force. The analysis was made based on the dual labour market theory, whereas employers were divided into employers of foreigners in occupations from the primary and secondary labour market.The analysis was based on 263 semi-structured interviews with employers from the Opolskie Voivodeship (Poland). The respondents were contacted in several ways. Firstly, the CAWI (Computer-Assisted Web Interview) and then PAPI (Paper & Pen Personal Interview) methods were used. The study showed that there is a significant statistical relationship between the labour market segment in which an employer hires a foreign employee, and the advantages gained by the employer. On the other hand, the study demonstrated no statistical relations between the labour market segment and the barriers for employing foreigners and their evaluation made by employers.

The aim of the article is to compare the effectiveness of the snowball sampling and Respondent Driven Sampling (RDS) for research on migrants working in elderly care. Analyses are based on results of in-depth semi-structured individual interviews conducted among 42 migrants working as caregivers in the Opole region (Poland). This group can be considered as a “hidden population” because, due to the work they provide in the household, frequently illegally, they often demonstrate a strong desire to remain invisible. The methods were compared in terms of: (1) duration of the survey, (2) diversity of the sample, (3) difficulty in applying both sampling methods. In the conducted survey, snowball sampling made it possible to find and reach the required number of respondents faster than the RDS. Both groups differed in terms of gender (more men were recruited by snowball sampling), legality of employment (there were fewer lawfully employed in the RDS group) and average length of stay in Poland (migrants recruited by snowball sampling stayed in Poland for an average of 3.3 years and enrolled by RDS for 1.7 year). In both groups, recruitment was not self-driven by the chain of social networks of respondents. The reason was, inter alia, the structure of the social network of the migrant, which only to a small extent covered other migrants employed in senior care. The article closes the research gap for comparative research using snowball sampling and RDS on the same hard-to-reach population. The survey also attempts to verify to what extent face-to-face RDS can be used to survey hidden and rare populations scattered over a larger area than a city or agglomeration. Therefore the RDS method has been used to recruit respondents from the whole region without limiting the scope to one city or agglomeration.

Purpose: The purpose of the paper is to check how students understand cooperation, which is very important in the contemporary market functioning. Design/Methodology/Approach: The paper presents a review of literature devoted to the concept of cooperation, co-opetition, and networking and a review of literature and research demonstrating the role of universities in economic development. To find out how students understand the concept of cooperation, co-opetition, and networking, a survey was conducted among university students in selected European regions. This paper uses the example of the University of Applied Sciences case study in Nysa, in Opolskie Voivodeship in Poland. Findings: The earlier conducted research among cluster managers demonstrates that one of the main reasons for the collapse of clusters is mental barriers. In many cases, members of cluster initiatives do not understand cooperation and co-opetition when joining them. They expect additional benefits, but without their own engagement and acquiring the skill of cooperation. Depopulation and migration processes in some regions are a big problem for the regional market. In subject literature, it is stressed that strong clusters can support regional development, which is particularly important in the case of small and weak regions in terms of endogenous factors. Practical Implications: Each year, university graduates enter the labor market, and in the future, some of them will be members of various business networks, including cluster networks. Through a survey study, it attempted to verify how students understand the concept of cooperation and clustering. Originality/value: This article illustrates how the learning process can be focused on finding solutions about strengthening knowledge and competencies for cooperation.
