Abstract: So, we made physical therapy in groups of three or more patients each, in 70 stroke patients all of them with middle cerebral artery infarct -50 walked and 20 did not walk in the beginning of treatment. The physical therapy in group was applied for three months. They all started treatment in acute phase of stroke. The results obtained after the physical therapy in group were analysed through both: 1 .The following measure tools: the Barthel Index, the Rivermead Mobility Index, the Canadian Neurological Scale, t… Show more

“…In the literature, very little attention has been paid to the evaluation of long-term prognosis, functional outcome, quality of life, incidence of poststroke depression (PSD) and return to work that specifically concerns young patients [4], even though more than 25 series of young patients who suffered a stroke have been reported. In fact, several studies have investigated the causes [5, 6, 7, 8, 9], the acute management and prognosis in terms of acute survival [10]or recurrence [5, 11]. …”

“…2,3 A previous epidemiological study on strokes in Taiwan demonstrated that the average annual incidence of first-ever stroke in the age group from 36 to 44 years old was 26 per 100 000. 4 Another community hospital-based study in Taiwan showed that for cerebral infarction, the annual incidence of first-ever stroke in patients younger than 45 years old was 2 per 100 000.…”

“…Regarding stroke subtypes, previous studies in western countries have found that strokes of other determined etiology and undetermined etiology occupied 50% to 72% of young ischemic stroke 1,3,[7][8][9][10][11][12] and that large-artery atherosclerosis was more common than small-vessel occlusion. 1,7,8,11 However, among blacks, small-vessel occlusion was reported to be more common than large-artery atherosclerosis.…”

“…Large-artery atherosclerosis has been shown to be an infrequent cause of IS in young adults, usually reaching values below 10% 5,9,[32][33][34] . However, our experience in São Paulo corroborates the findings of Zétola et al in Curitiba, Brazil, who found higher percentages of atherothrombotic stroke in young adults associated with high prevalence of arterial hypertension, smoking, hypercholesterolemia, diabetes mellitus and alcohol abuse 35,36 .…”

“…Ischemic young stroke patients with undetermined etiology varied from 16% to almost half when TOAST 51 criteria were used 3,[32][33][34]38,52 . These high numbers may be explained in part by the insufficient extent and timing of the investigation, because transient and completely reversible phenomena may underlie the etiopathogenesis of many cases of cryptogenic stroke.…”
