Central odontogenic fibroma: a case report

“…The CODF case reported by Daniels10 was somewhat bigger in size, however it resembled a dentigerous cyst. Handers et al3 reported that there were only two mandibular lesions among the 19 CODF cases, and one of the mandibular lesions with a large multilocular radiolucency involving most of the ramus was similar to this case except for the fact that the margin was scalloped and showed well-defined buccal cortical expansion suggesting benign nature of the lesion. Kaffe and Buchner13 stated that the majority of CODFs were unilocular radiolucent lesions with well-defined border, however they might also appear as multilocular lesions and might exhibit a mixed radiolucent-radiopaque appearance with poorly defined or diffused borders in rare cases.…”

Hybrid central giant cell granuloma and central odontogenic fibroma‐like lesions of the jaws

“…The fibrous component of the lesions described here is histologically indistinguishable from the central odontogenic fibroma as accepted by most authors 7,14,16,21,25 . However , , unlike central odontogenic fibroma the present lesions do not contain cementum-like bone or dentinoid associated with epithelium but rather osteoid and woven bone trabeculae more characteristic of giant cell granuloma.…”

Locally aggressive central odontogenic fibroma associated to an inflammatory cyst: a clinical, histological and immunohistochemical study

“…As already suggested by Handlers et al. (5), despite the existence of the same histological pattern, those lesions apparently formed from the dental follicle may exhibit a greater growth potential than tumours arising from the periodontal ligament. In any case, we consider that this hypothesis should be contrasted with the age of the patient at the time of diagnosis of the lesion, as in younger patients evolution of the tumour has been briefer, and the attainment of a large size in such individuals would imply a greater growth potential.…”
