Abstract: The purpose of the present study was to investigate the effect of cellular structure on the impact strength of polypropylene/polyolefin elastomers blend foams produced by the continuous extrusion process. To create different cell sizes, two chemical blowing agents were employed: azodicarbonamide and sodium bicarbonate. Sodium bicarbonate created foams with bigger cell size and cell wall thickness than azodicarbonamide. The impact strength of the neat and blend foams were studied and correlated to the foam prop… Show more

“…2,3 Other important advantages of polymer foams are excellent thermal 4 and sound insulation, 5 as well as the outstanding energy absorption and impact damping properties. 6 This is exploited, for example, in the automotive industry, where the instrument panel and side panels often contain a layer of polymer foam, which is designed to protect occupants in the event of collisions and accidents. 7 Another important segment is the packaging industry, where packaging materials with adequate impact damping capability are essential to prevent the product being damaged during transport.…”

“…This special structure has a number of advantageous properties, the most important of which is low density, as the importance of weight reduction is constantly increasing in all industries due to the environmental regulations of recent years 2,3 . “…The foaming of polymers is possible mechanically (air dispersion), physically (gas injection, bead foaming, expandable microspheres), and chemically (foaming agents that generate effective gases through thermal decomposition, e.g., in the case of during polyurethane foaming) [1][2][3]. Nowadays, the polymer foam market is growing at an annual rate of about 3-6% [4], mainly because polymer foams have low weight and excellent thermal, acoustic, moisture insulating, and damping properties [5][6][7][8][9][10][11]. Due to the increasingly stringent environmental directives and the reduction/prohibition of single-use products, polylactide acid (PLA) is one of the most important biopolymer candidates to enhance sustainability.…”

“…CO 2 is known to be capable of plasticizing polymers and decreasing their viscosity [14], melting point [15], and glass transition temperature [16]. Many CO 2 -based processes with polymers have been proposed such as dyeing and polymer particle synthesis [17], foam molding [18], fabrication of carbon nanotube composite foam [19], foam molding of polymer blends [20], molecularly imprinted polymer development in supercritical CO 2 [21], and fabrication of two-dimensional porous polymers [22]. As the CAPC process is performed at room temperature with no temperature controller and the pressure of CO 2 is also introduced at the vapor pressure, which is the pressure inside the liquid CO 2 cylinder, the CO 2 is conveniently introduced in the gas phase by opening a valve.…”
