Catechin sublimation pressure and solubility in supercritical carbon dioxide

Abstract: a b s t r a c tSolubility of (+)-catechin in SC-CO 2 was measured at several temperatures (313.15, 323.15, 333.15 and 343.15 K) and pressure in the range of 12-26 MPa using ethanol as the co-solvent (5 mol.%). The experimental data were used for the correlation of density dependent solute solubility parameters. The equations of Chrastil, del Valle and Aguilera, Adachi and Lu, González, and Méndez-Santiago and Tejawere fitted very well for the solubility of (+)-catechin. The rate of mass loss of (+)-catechin … Show more

“…At static condition, the recovery of catechin from activated carbon was only 1.2% while for epicatechin it was 14.5%. This low recovery is consistent with the solubility data of both phenolic compounds in supercritical CO 2 under static condition [30,31]. In order to increase the recovery of catechin and epicatechin in supercritical CO 2 , dynamic extraction experiments were also conducted with flow rates of CO 2 from 0.1 to 1 kg/h.…”

“…The solubility of target compounds in SC-CO 2 is a good indicator of the interaction between species and can be used to establish whether a compound can be solubilized by SC-CO 2 in a given condition [23,24]. were carried out in a temperature range of 33-68 °C and at pressures ranging from 11.0 to 32.0 MPa.…”

“…The dependency of solute solubility in this work on temperature is considered large because of high absolute value of a. In addition, the obtained b value in this study is comparable with that of catechin and walnut with respect to molecular weight and melting point. Similarly to a value, high c value in dVA and Sparks equations also showed greater dependency of solute solubility on temperature.…”

“…To compare all of the discussed semi‐empirical equations, Bartle model provided accurate estimation with the highest regression correlation, 96.4%, and lowest error, 1.52%, and can be employed to stimulate the solute solubility at a temperature between 50 and 70 °C and a pressure of 20 to 30 MPa. Most of the constants obtained from this study are comparable with other research carried out in this area . In short, it is proved that the results of this work agree within the ranges of seeds and polar compound extraction.…”
