Castleman disease mimicked pancreatic carcinoma: report of two cases

Abstract: Castleman disease (CD) is an uncommon benign lymphoproliferative disorder, which usually presents as solitary or multiple masses in the mediastinum. Peripancreatic CD was rarely reported. Herein, we report two cases of unicentric peripancreatic CD from our center. A 43-year-old man and a 58-year-old woman were detected to have a pancreatic mass in the routine medical examinations. Both of them were asymptomatic. The computed tomography and ultrasonographic examination revealed a mild enhancing solitary mass at… Show more

“…Clinical manifestations of CD are heterogeneous, ranging from asymptomatic discrete lymphadenopathy to recurrent episodes of diffuse lymphadenopathy with severe systemic symptoms [8]. The HV variety of CD is more common (90%) and is usually asymptomatic and presents as a localized disease [9], [10]. Abdominal and retroperitoneal locations may present with symptoms due to mass effect on adjacent organs as anorexia, weight loss, vomiting, urinary retention, and abdominal pain [11].…”

“…CD has two clinical subtypes: Multicentric and unicentric (localized) (6). The unicentric variant of CD is the most common type and is localized to a single lymph node chain or area (5). In adults, 90% of localized CD cases are HV-type and predominantly occur in young adults (3).…”
