Carrier frequency harmonic suppression in dual three‐phase permanent magnet synchronous motor system

Abstract: Dual three-phase permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) is a major area of interest within the field of motors since it inherits the advantages of both the PMSM and multiphase machines. While dual three-phase PMSM (DTP-PMSM) system has a more severe carrier frequency harmonic problem due to the low impedance in the harmonic subspace, which will not only decrease the efficiency but also produce the high-frequency audible noise. This study proposes an improved space vector pulse-width modulation (SVPWM) strat… Show more

“…Figure 11 illustrates the implemented PMSM control and modulation strategy. From the control strategy point of view, the PMSM is driven considering the traditional FOC [40]. In the modulation stage, the con- ventional single-carrier PWM method, the tri-carrier PWM technique with fixed carrier displacement angles [35] as well as the proposed sampling-time adaptive multi-carrier PWM technique have been implemented in order to evaluate the obtained CMV of the power system.…”

“…Besides, due to the existence of lowimpedance subspace in the harmonic subspace in DTP-PMSM system, certain orders of the harmonic voltage would generate much larger current harmonics compared with the three-phase ones. The negative effects of high frequency harmonics are more pronounced in the DTP-PMSM systems [11].…”

“…Though the research on the high frequency current harmonic suppression in DTP-PMSM system is not investigated widely [11] [12], plenty of research on the high frequency harmonic in servo systems or power electronic applications have been investigated to reduce its negative effect. In [13], the amplitude and frequency of high and low frequency harmonics introduced by PWM techniques have been analyzed and collated.…”

“…Figure11shows the PMSM control and modulation strategies implemented in the experimental setup. In the control strategy, the PMSM is driven by a speed and current double closed control loop[37]. In the modulation stage, the three PWM methods ([φ a , φ b , φ c ] equal to [0, 0, 0] • , [0, 120, 240] • and [0, φ b opt , φ c opt ] • ) are tested to check the influence on the VSD CMV, the phase currents as well as the induced shaft voltage.…”
