Cardiac Troponin T and NT-proBNP as Biomarkers of Early Myocardial Damage in Amitriptyline-Induced Cardiovascular Toxicity in Rats

Abstract: The main objective of this study was to investigate whether cardiac troponin (cTn) and N-terminal, protein B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) can be useful as indicators for amitriptyline cardiotoxicity which is a known drug having sublethal toxic cardiac effects. At the same time, this study looked at detecting potential histopathological changes specific to irreversible cardiac injuries in a rat model of amitriptyline cardiotoxicity. Male Wistar rats were randomly divided into 2 groups, control (saline) … Show more

“…Sialography has also been combined with medical CT, but the anisotropic voxel resolution may not demonstrate the fine anatomy of the gland ductal structures [8]. Sialography has also been combined with fluoroscopy, but this modality delivers relatively significant doses of radiation to the patient [9,10].…”

“…Lot A of females rats was the control group and did not receive any substance. Lot B of female rats received retinoic acid derived from vitamin A, known as teratogen [12] which determine labio-palatine cleft inrodent. Each animal received 50mg of retinoic acid / kg body weight per day, intraperitoneal, single dose per day until pregnant females gave birth.…”

“…In clinical practice, numerous serum biomarkers are proposed for diagnosis of drug-induced cardiotoxicity. Previous studies point that troponin I can be used as a potent biomarker of toxic cardiac injury when irreversible myocyte injuries with loss of sarcolemmal integrity are present regardless of the cardiotoxic agents involved (Sorodoc et al, 2013).Btype natriuretic peptide (BNP) and N-terminal fragment of its prohormone (NT-proBNP) are cardiacderived polypeptides predominately secreted from ventricular myocardium in response to volume and pressure overload. Both can be viewed as quantitative markers of ventricular dysfunction and well-established predictors of disease state in symptomatic and asymptomatic patients with suspected heart failure (Mueller et al, 2007;Khalaf et al, 2011;Sorodoc et al, 2013;Zoltani, 2014).…”
