“…However, some patients with cardiomyopathy due to hyperthyroidism have died in spite of medical treatment 9 10) . Childhood GD is not as common as the adult form and, moreover, the incidence of severe cardiac complications is also lower, being seen in only 1% of these patients 7) . Cavallo et al 7) reported that 2 of 21 children with hyperthyroidism had congestive heart failure.…”

Cavallo et al 7) reported that 2 of 21 children with hyperthyroidism had congestive heart failure. One of the 2 patients, who was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism at 12 years of age, underwent subtotal thyroidectomy but deteriorated because of cardiac complications and died of possible cerebral embolism.…”

Exaggerated anticipatory anxiety is common in social anxiety disorder (SAD). Neuroimaging studies have revealed altered neural activity in response to social stimuli in SAD, but fewer studies have examined neural activity during anticipation of feared social stimuli in SAD. The current study examined the time course and magnitude of activity in threat processing brain regions during speech anticipation in socially anxious individuals and healthy controls (HC). Method Participants (SAD n = 58; HC n = 16) underwent functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) during which they completed a 90s control anticipation task and 90s speech anticipation task.

“…In hyperthyroidism, heart failure may occur in the absence of underlying heart disease as reported in children by Cavallo et al 4 Reduced left ventricular contractile reserve may impair the ability to raise cardiac output to match the increase of peripheral metabolic demand. Left ventricular hypertrophy may result in impaired left ventricular filling, in particular when associated with accelerated heart rate.…”

“…There are very few reports of cardiac failure in juvenile hyperthyroidism. In a retrospective analysis of 21 children with hyperthyroidism, cardiac failure was observed in 2 patients [3]. There is some evidence of presence of thyrotoxic cardiomyopathy in children [8].…”
