Abstract: -Carcinomatous encephalitis is a rare entity, originally described by Madow and Alpers in 1951, which is characterized by tumoral spreading perivascular, without mass effect. Clinical manifestations such as hemiparesis, seizures, ataxia, speech difficulties, cerebrospinal fluid findings as well as computed tomography are nonspecific. This leads the physician to pursue more frequent diseases that could explain those manifestations -toxic, metabolic, and/or infectious encephalopathy. A magnetic resonance imaging… Show more

“…The majority of previously described cases of miliary brain metastasis were from lung adenocarcinoma [1,2,4-10]. Miliary brain metastasis is diagnosed on the basis of findings showing diffuse miliary spread of punctate tumor nodules in the brain.…”

“…In previous cases, convulsion [1,13], hemiparesis [1,10], memory disturbance [7-9], dementia-like symptoms or psychiatric symptoms [1-4,8-11,13,16,17], and disorientation [5-9,16] have been reported as primary symptoms. Patients with miliary brain metastasis can show an atypical clinical course and atypical symptoms.…”

“…8,11,12 We have occasionally encountered advanced lung cancer patients with multiple miliary metastatic lesions on distant organs. [13][14][15] We collectively refer to miliary intrapulmonary and distant site metastases as "milary dissemination carcinomatosis" and describe its clinical phenotype in lung adenocarcinomas with EGFR mutations in this study. We also compare the response of miliary and non-miliary disseminated carcinomatosis to EGFR-TKIs.…”

“…Therefore, the physicians usually pursue other more frequent diseases that could explain clinical manifestations of these patients. [1,2] In addition to a metastatic brain tumor, radiological differential diagnosis of these lesions includes miliary brain tuberculosis, neurocysticercosis or toxoplasmosis. Nevertheless, because of similarity in appearances on different conventional magnetic imaging (MRI) sequences, (MRI) cannot always provide enough information for differentiation of these lesions.…”
