This paper presents an atlas of physical geography at a detailed scale for an area located between two large morphostructural units: the Atlantic Plateau, a crystalline shield of rough landforms, and the Peripheral Depression, a transition unit from Plateau to the Parana Sedimentary Basin, whose smooth landforms are generally sculpted over sedimentary terrain. The transition between these two land systems creates contrasting landforms as a function of bedrock structure and soil type. Smooth landforms underlain by sedimentary rocks and reddish clayey soils alternate with small hills with abrupt slopes sustained by igneous or metamorphic rocks. These soils, developed from weathering of siltstones can rapidly change to brownish and pale colors indicating leaching and weathering of stratified sandstones or massive structured quartzites. A geomorphopedological classification at 1:10,000 scale was performed initially by delimiting units according to landforms. Secondly, other themes were added by combining them with different types of rocks and soils. The geomorphological map was produced by using thematic maps including a topographic base map, hypsometric map, slope map and morphological map. Also the geological and pedological maps were created based on field data collection, morphological analysis of soil profiles and physical, chemical and mineralogical laboratory analysis. Finally, the geomorphopedological units were defined using all the mapped data. Each of these units has peculiar features concerning developed or undeveloped soil formation, with mineralogy and structure very often linked to underlying rock. The landform shape is either controlled by geologic structure or originated from weathering processes that make the relief flatter.

Com vistas ao planejamento do uso da água subterrânea no eixo Sorocaba-Campinas, região de crescente urbanização e industrialização, realizou-se um estudo hidroquímico no Município de Itu (SP). A partir dos resultados analíticos de 50 amostras de poços tubulares profundos estudados na década de 1990, foram constatadas águas predominantemente bicarbonatadas cálcicas no Aquífero Cristalino e bicarbonatadas sódicas a cálcicas no Aquífero Tubarão. As águas foram classificadas como adequadas e boas para uso agrícola e pecuário. No entanto, para consumo humano, foram identificados poços tubulares cujas águas não atendem aos padrões bacteriológicos da Portaria de potabilidade do Ministério da Saúde (Portaria 2914, de 12/12/2011), provavelmente associados a problemas de proteção sanitária (5 com a presença de coliformes fecais e 13 com coliformes totais). Elevadas concentrações de ferro e/ou manganês também foram identificadas em 16 poços e devem estar relacionadas tanto a características geológicas como a problemas construtivos. Verificou-se ainda uma ocorrência anômala de fluoreto, provavelmente associada à alteração mineral de granitoides da região.

RESUMOIdades U-Pb em zircão com valores entre 660 e 640 Ma, obtidas em uma série de ortognaisses e plútons de afinidades cálcio-alcalinas, no sudeste da Província Mantiqueira Central, sugerem que um importante período de magmatismo cordilherano ocorreu nesta região antes da etapa colisional da aglutinação do Gondwana Ocidental (até então reportado ao período entre 625 e 580 Ma). A natureza isotópica deste magmatismo ainda não foi bem caracterizada, no entanto, alguns dados isotópicos Sm-Nd preliminares sugerem que estes magmas não foram derivados exclusivamente de litosfera paleoproterozóica, mas constituem produtos híbridos de fontes paleoproterozóicas e neoproterozóicas. Tais misturas são comumente observadas em ambiente de arcos continentais. É possível que as rochas com idades entre 660 e 640 Ma representem um magmatismo de arco tipo cordilherano, resultado da subducção de crosta oceânica Neoproterozóica durante a convergência pré-colisional e fechamento de oceano (nesta região de ligação entre Adamastor e Goianides).Keywords: precollisional convergence, Neoproterozoic, Mantiqueira Province. ABSTRACTUranium-lead zircon ages between 660 and 640 Ma, obtained from a series of calc-alkaline orthogneisses and plutons in southeast Brazil's Central Mantiqueira Province, suggest that a significant period of magmatism occurred in this region prior to the collisional assembly of West Gondwana (presently constrained in the region between ca. 625 and 580 Ma). While the nature of this earlier magmatism is presently unclear, some preliminary Sm-Nd data suggest that these magmas were not solely derived from the Paleoproterozoic lithosphere, but appear to represent hybrid products of Paleoproterozoic and Neoproterozoic sources. As such hybrid mixtures have been most commonly observed in continental arc settings, it is possible that the 660 to 640 Ma magmatism represents arc magmatism that resulted from subduction of Neoproterozoic oceanic crust during early precollisional convergence and closure of a branch of either the Adamastor or Goianides oceans.
