Aim: The aim of our study was to determine the prevalence, degree of expression and the symmetry of the Tubercle of Carabelli “TC” in a sample of Dentistry students to highlight this sensitive area to dental caries. Materials and methods: We conducted a descriptive transversal survey of students in the 4th year of the academic year 2015/2016 at the Faculty of Dental Medicine of Casablanca. The study is made on plaster models, by measuring the mesiodistal diameter of the TC with an electronic caliper. Results: Several results were obtained: 64.29% of the study population have the CT, while it is absent in 35.71% of cases, 37.50% With a tubercle of Carabelli little developed, 26.71% With a well-developed Carabelli tubercle, 61.11% of cases exhibit TC bilaterally and 38.89% Of cases present the TC unilaterally. The results are consistent with those obtained in other surveys conducted in other countries. Conclusion: The lack of standardization of the study’s methodology makes it difficult to compare the results of various studies, hence the need for similar studies on larger samples. Clinical Significance: It has some importance in the dental, forensic, anthropological and dental industries. In orthodontics, the cause of premature caries and periodontal diseases, also in extractions, the molar extraction instruments have no housing for this cusp and can therefore lead to his fracture.

Suvremena stomatologija vuče korijen znanstvene medicinske grane od godine 1728. tj. otkako je objavljeno djelo Pierrea Faucharda pod naslovom "Lechirurgien dentiste oùtraitédesdents". Stomatološka dijagnostička znanja, posebice oralna i maksilofacijalna radiologija, smatraju se početnom točkom za svaki hitan ili opsežan zubni tretman. Dentalna radiologija je dio radiologije koji se bavi upotrebom ionizirajućih i neionizirajućih zračenja u svrhu postavljanja dijagnoze, planiranja stomatoloških postupaka te praćenju razvoja bolesti i rezultata stomatološkog liječenja. Nakon što je 1895. godine profesor Wilhelm Conrad Roendgen otkrio x-zrake, stomatolozi su vrlo brzo otkrili dijagnostičku prednost njegova otkrića. Nedugo nakon Roentgenove publikacije otkrića, 12. siječnja 1896. godine dr. Otto Walkhoff u Braunschweigu, napravio je prvu rendgensku sliku zuba. Yrjo V. Paaterovim izumom panoramskog snimka 1948. godine, dentalna radiografija napravila je značaj napredak. Uređaj koji je proizvodio dvodimenzionalan snimak cijelih usta bio je jedinstven jer i film i uređaj bio smješten u ustima. Stomatološke rendgenske snimke dijele se na intraoralne i ekstraoralne. Intraoralne rendgenske snimke nastaju tako što se film smješta u usnu šupljinu. Aim: Carabelli’s trait, a morphological feature on the mesiopalatal surface of the maxillary molars, has importance in anthropology, forensic sciences, and clinical dentistry. The aim of this study was to find the frequency and degree of expression of Carabelli’s trait and to assess the asymmetry of the trait, on three permanent maxillary molars in a sample of Turkish individuals. Methodology: Carabelli’s trait was evaluated using Dahlberg’s eight-grade scale on 462 subjects. Data were analyzed using a chi-square test. Results: The frequencies in the total, positive and negative expressions of the trait were, respectively, 64.5%, 37.7% and 26.8% on the first molars, 27.1%, 19.6% and 7.6% on the second molars and 10.3%, 8.7% and 1.6% on the third molars. The occurrence of the trait on the first and second molars was more prevalent in males than in females. The trait was most frequently bilateral and symmetrical without significant sex differences, with varying degrees of asymmetry that increased from the first to the third molars. The frequencies of presence-absence asymmetry and any degree of asymmetry on the first molars were 5.3% and 15.7%, respectively. Conclusion: This study revealed a comparatively high frequency of Carabelli’s trait with a relatively low asymmetry in a contemporary Turkish sample.
