Azadirachta indica L. is a multipurpose medicinal tree of family Meliaceae. It occurs in tropical and semitropical regions of the world. Different parts of this miraculous tree are used to treat pyrexia, headache, ulcer, respiratory disorders, cancer, diabetes, leprosy, malaria, dengue, chicken pox, and dermal complications. The tree is popular for its pharmacological attributes such as hypolipidemic, antifertility, microbicidal, antidiabetic, anti-inflammatory, hepatoprotective, antipyretic, hypoglycemic, insecticidal, nematicidal, antiulcer, antioxidant, neuroprotective, cardioprotective, and antileishmaniasis properties. A. indica is also rich in various phytochemicals for pharmaceuticals such as alkaloids, steroids, flavonoids, terpenoids, fatty acids, and carbohydrates. The fungicidal potential of the tree is due to the presence of azadirachtin and nimbin. Herein, we have compiled a comprehensive review of phytochemical profile, pharmacological attributes, and therapeutic prospective of this multipurpose tree.

In this study, changes in bioactive properties and phenolic compounds of different caper parts were reported. Total phenolic contents of C. ovata and C. spinosa plants varied between 175.35 mgGAE/100 g (fruit) and 518.4 mgGAE/100 g (small bud) to 143.58 mgGAE/100 g (fruit and 597.57 mgGAE/100 g (small bud), respectively. While total flavonoid contents of C. ovata parts vary between 9.12 mg/g (fruit) and 37.22 mg/g (small bud), total flavonoid contents of C. spinosa parts changed between 7.43 mg/g (fruit) and 62.39 mg/g (small bud). Antioxidant activity values of C. ovata and C. spinosa parts varied between 53.43% (sprout) and 76.40% (medium bud) to 50.51% (fruit) and 76.65% (medium bud), respectively. While (+) catechin contents of C. ovata parts change between 22.16 mg/100 g (fruit) and 149.13 mg/100 g (small bud), (+)‐catechin contents of C. spinosa parts varied between 65.50 mg/100 g (fruit) and 99.29 mg/100 (small bud). 1,2‐Dihydroxybenzene contents of C. ovata ranged from 33.4 mg/100 g (fruit) to 142.41 mg/100 g (small bud) while 1,2‐dihydroxybenzene contents of C. spinosa parts are found between 75.17 mg/100 g (fruit) and 127.32 mg/100 g (medium bud). Practical applications Caper plant grows at the most countries of Africa, Asia, and South European. Capers have very important roles for beneficial natural components in the food industry. Caper buds and fruits are used for human nutrition. It is utilized to prepare salada as a culinary herb. Caper has pungent and bitter flavor, and are used as an appetizer with olives, cheese, and nuts. There are a significant increase in the interest of bioactive compounds from plant products. Curative and medicinal properties of capers are linked to the presence of bioactive compounds.

The genus Mentha comprises several aromatic species, which are cultivated worldover due to their distinct aroma and commercial value. In addition to traditional food flavoring uses, Mentha are well recognized for their folk medicinal uses, especially to treat cold, fever, and digestive and cardiovascular disorders. A number of biological activities such as antioxidant, antimicrobial, biopesticidal, antitumor, anticancer, antiviral, antiallergic, antiinflammatory, antihypertensive, and urease inhibitory activity have been ascribed to Mentha. The traditional pharmacological attributes of Mentha herbs can be linked to the occurrence of bioactive phytochemicals such as terpenoids, alcohols, rosmarinic acid, and antioxidant phenolics among others. A rich source of bioactives, different species of Mentha, can be explored as a promising candidate for the development of nutra-pharmaceuticals. This review covers the nutritional, phytochemical, and traditional medicinal aspects and multiple biological activities of some commonly available species of Mentha so as to explore their potential applications for nutra-pharmaceutical and cosmo-nutraceutical industry. Detailed chemical profile and pharmaceutical attributes of various Mentha essential oils are also covered. Moreover, based on computational analysis, quantitative chemical component-antioxidant activity relationship model is reviewed to predict and correlate structure-activity relationship of potential bioactives in selected Mentha essential oils leading to discovery and developmenmt of novel natural drugs.
