Capacidade funcional e a gravidade do trauma em idosos

Abstract: Objective: Correlate functional capacity in elderly people with the severity of the trauma and compare it before and after the trauma. Methods: Prospective observational study conducted in an emergency department, comprised of 55 elderly people, age 60 and over, of both sexes, who suffered trauma. The incapacity of patients with functional limitations of various origins was assessed. The research instruments applied at three different times were: the Functional Independence Measure and the Injury Severity Scor… Show more

“…Additionally, these medications may cause postural hypotension, dizziness, frequent urination, and other effects that may lead to falls in these patients, resulting in a decline in functional capacity. 17 So, this drug class may cause disturbances in homeostasis, poor hydration of the skin tissue and risk factors for trauma, contributing to the occurrence of skin lesions. This is due to changes in the cascades of reactions in the body caused by electrolyte disturbances promoted by this drug class, which may increase the toxicity of several drugs that predispose to digitalis intoxication, changes in homeostasis and skin tissue nutrition.…”

“…Além disso, os pacientes desta pesquisa apresentaram comprometimento de 7 dos 9 domínios da EFS, o que diverge do estudo realizado em Unidade de Saúde da Família, no qual houve comprometimento apenas na cognição (11). Este resultado pode estar relacionado ao fato desses idosos não estarem internados e não apresentarem comprometimento agudo.…”
