Calibration and Distortion Field Compensation of Gradiometer and the Improvement in Object Remote Sensing

Abstract: Abstract. Magnetometer, misalignment error and distortion field can reduce the accuracy of gradiometers. So, it is important to calibrate and compensate gradiometers error. Scale factor, bias, nonorthogonality, misalignment and distortion field should be considered. A gradiometer is connected by an aluminium frame, which contains two fluxgate magnetometers. A nonmagnetic rotation equipment is used to change gradiometer attitude, and the compensation parameters are estimated. Experiment results show that, after… Show more

“…It can detect magnetic anomalies by measuring the spatial change rates of the three components of a magnetic field along the orthogonal coordinate system and has been widely applied in the fields of aviation geophysical exploration [1][2][3][4], magnetic dipole localization [5][6][7][8][9][10], geophysical surveys [11][12][13], biomagnetic [14][15][16], underwater unmanned aerial vehicle navigation, and geomagnetic navigation [17][18][19][20][21][22]. To achieve high sensitivity detection of weak magnetic targets, it is necessary to improve its data quality [23]. However, the quality can be affected by factors such as interference, unsatisfactory performance of the sensors, and installation of the sensor array.…”
