Buckling and postbuckling of carbon nanotube-reinforced composite cylindrical panels subjected to axial compression in thermal environments

Abstract: This paper presents an analytical investigation on the buckling and postbuckling behavior of thin composite cylindrical panels reinforced by single walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs), exposed to thermal environments and subjected to uniform axial compression. Material properties of isotropic matrix phase and carbon nanotubes are assumed to be temperature dependent, and effective properties of carbon nanotube-reinforced composite (CNTRC) are functionally graded in the thickness direction and estimated by extended… Show more

“…Shen [5] studied the postbuckling of FG-CNTRC cylindrical panels under external pressure in thermal environments. Analytical investigations on thin and shear deformable FG-CNTRC cylindrical panels subjected to mechanical and thermomechanical loads are performed by Trang and Tung [6][7][8]. Postbuckling behavior of FG-CNTRC cylindrical shells subjected to axial compression and external pressure in thermal environments are analyzed by Shen [9,10] employing higher order shear deformation theory (HSDT) and asymptotic solutions.…”

“…As an extension of previous works on thin CNTRC cylindrical panel and shell [36,37], this paper presents an analytical study on the buckling and postbuckling behavior of shear deformable CNTRC sandwich cylindrical panels subjected to uniform axial compression in thermal environments. Two sandwich models corresponding to CNTRC face sheets and core layer are considered.…”
