Background and Objective: Manual application of manure directly to the field is hazardous, uneconomical and inefficient due to attendant health, uneven distribution and high labor involvement. To considerably minimize these challenges, mechanical spreading had become popular. This study, therefore, investigates the performance of a developed tractor-mounted spreader consisting of a disc with two conventional vanes, a reduction gear attached to the tractor PTO shaft, an agitator, a hopper and points of attachment to the tractor. Materials and Methods: The machine was constructed of locally sourced materials from scrap metals and tested for field performance. The spreader was calibrated and evaluated for field performance using four organic manures, poultry, cow dung, pig and goat droppings. Results:The developed tractor-drawn manure spreader has desirable functional and field performance results with hopper discharge efficiency of 99.99%, a maximum disc width throw of 4.84 m at an angular velocity of 12.57 rad, particle velocity of 138.2 m secG 1 and a discharge capacity range of 828.11 and 934.12 kg hrG 1 for all manure samples. The particle size distribution characteristics and density of the selected manures showed that poultry dropping has a larger percentage of fine particles and the least coefficient of variation (0.95). Cow dung has the highest coarse particle sizes, highest coefficient of variation (1.38) and particle density (1785.33 kg mG 2 ). Conclusion: The spreader provided technical solutions to the challenges of hazards in manure application, uniformity in distribution and low cost of equipment acquisition. Cow dung has the best uniformity spread, while poultry droppings had the least uniformity spread.

Currently the centrifugal spreaders are the most used for lime application in Brazil. The pendulumaction spreaders have characteristics that differentiate them from the centrifugal, such as a symmetrical pattern and the possibility to apply in different widths with the spout change, but are normally not used for lime application due to its high rates. The objective of this work was to resize, create and evaluate a pendulum-action spreader able to distribute lime, at flows larger than 1.50 kg s -1 , usually found in conventional models. A prototype with volumetric measure mechanism and eletric motor drive, connected to a frequency inverter, was developed. Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) pendulums with different lengths were used, with and without a ramp at their ends. Experiment tests were conducted in a completely randomized design with three replications using 7 x 3 x 2 factorial arrangement consisted of seven frequencies, three spout lengths and the use of a ramp at its end. O eucalipto é considerado uma cultura tolerante à acidez do solo, porém, com produtividade dos plantios influenciada pela disponibilidade nutricional nos solos, em especial, dos nutrientes cálcio (Ca) e magnésio (Mg). Nos últimos anos, várias máquinas têm sido desenvolvidas para permitir a aplicação mecanizada de fontes destes nutrientes de em terrenos com alta inclinação, onde além de precisar vencer os obstáculos do relevo, precisam garantir a qualidade da aplicação do produto. Diante do abordado, o objetivo principal deste trabalho foi avaliar a uniformidade da distribuição mecanizada de calcário em áreas montanhosas com utilização de sistemas mecanizados de discos centrífugos e pneumáticos, bem como determinar o efeito da inclinação do terreno e do sentido longitudinal de deslocamento de conjuntos mecanizados sobre a uniformidade da distribuição de calcário. Os sistemas mecanizados selecionados foram M1 (Trator agrícola com distribuidor centrífugo), M2 (Trator florestal com distribuidor centrífugo) e M3 (Trator agrícola com distribuidor pneumático). Os equipamentos foram avaliados em faixas de inclinação variando de 0 a 40°, em posições longitudinais subindo e descendo. A avaliação da distribuição transversal mostrou que cada sistema mecanizado apresenta diferentes resultados quanto a variáveis como coeficiente de variação (CV), atingimento da dose esperada e simetria, sendo que os resultados foram piores que a maioria das referências técnicas. A inclinação foi altamente determinante para a uniformidade de distribuição. O sentido de aplicação não afetou de forma significativa a variância, porém afetou a dose aplicada. Aplicações descendo apresentaram 21% a mais de calcário que aplicações subindo. O sistema pneumático M3 apresentou resultados fora dos limites em todas as combinações de inclinação e sentido. O conjunto M1 foi o mais homogêneo. Os resultados inferiores à agricultura eram esperados visto que, operações de campo, com influência de vento e em solos irregulares tendem a produzir padrões mais variáveis de faixa de aplicação. O trabalho atingiu os objetivos de trazer conhecimento científico sobre as novas tecnologias utilizadas no meio florestal para avanço da mecanização em terrenos montanhosos, gerando subsídios para melhorias e garantia de viabilidade técnica e econômica da operação.
